Sun Power

Sun Power

Sun Power, a work originally created by @santiago_reyes_villaveces for @artissimafair, is put in dialogue with Myopia, a painting by @goncalopreto produced for @liste_art_fair_basel.

Makere Stewart-Harawira (2005, p. 155) explains, for example, that a central principle of Indigenous ontologies is “the profound interconnectedness of all existence”, encompassing not only “relationships between human beings, between all other forms of life” but also “the entire cosmos”*

Sun power is a multiform sculpture made of connected sections with a goldish chrome coat. As a satellite solar array, Sun Power is a portable sculpture that unfolds in a circular shape that recalls pre-Columbian artefact. From Earth bowels, gold is melted and turned into a superconductive material that powers the outer space infrastructure. Sun Power liminal state evokes the cosmogonic connection of pre-Columbian societies with gold and the Sun as the source of all energy.
